Reducing Traffic Congestion
It is difficult, if not impossible, to limit the number of tourists who want to visit our beautiful seaside community. However, we can provide adequate parking so that our roads and neighborhoods are not clogged by tourist traffic.
Liberate Laguna supports building new parking structures downtown, close to businesses, restaurants and beaches. We support expansion of existing parking in Canyon parking structures, and we support increasing parking fees for non-residents to help pay for making improvements.
High property values have restricted the supply of affordable housing in our city. One of the solutions to this problem is to allow homeowners to build accessory dwelling units, otherwise known as “granny flats,” on their existing property. Laguna Beach currently restricts “granny flats.”
Liberate Laguna supports changing the City’s zoning laws regulating “granny flats” by increasing the size limits and increasing the locations where they can be built.
Short-term rentals managed by companies like Air BnB, HomeAway and VRBO present a threat to the quality of life in all resort cities, and Laguna Beach is no exception. Short-term rentals often change homes in quiet neighborhoods into party houses, leading to crime and noise.
Liberate Laguna supports severely limiting short-term rentals in residential neighborhoods, thus encouraging visitors to stay in our local hotels, which are in commercial areas.
